Hair Loss Gene Is Identified, Will Help Men With HairLoss Soon

New Hair Loss Gene Is Identified
Genetic Mutation May Play Role in Male Pattern Baldness and a Rare Hair Loss Disorder
By Jennifer Warner
WebMD Health NewsReviewed by Laura J. Martin, MDApril 14, 2010 — A gene responsible for a rare hair loss disorder may also play an important role in male pattern baldness, according to a new study.

Researchers have identified a genetic mutation involved in hypotrichosis simplex, a hereditary hair loss disorder that affects less than 200,000 Americans. The disorder causes hair follicle miniaturization, a process in which hair follicles shrink and narrow, and thick hair is replaced by fine, downy “peach fuzz” hair.

But researchers say that the same process is also a key component of male pattern baldness.

“The identification of this gene underlying hereditary hypotrichosis simplex has afforded us an opportunity to gain insight into the process of hair follicle miniaturization, which is most commonly observed in male pattern hair loss or androgenetic alopecia,” says researcher Angela M. Christiano, PhD, professor of dermatology and genetics and development at Columbia University Medical Center, in a news release.

The study, published in Nature, highlights the role of a mutated version of the gene APCDD1 in hair follicle biology.

Previous research has already linked the gene to other hair loss disorders, but in this study researchers found the mutated gene inhibits a signaling pathway involved in hair growth.

By learning more about this pathway, known as the Wnt pathway, researchers say the discovery may lead to new and improved treatments for male pattern baldness and other hair loss disorders.

“We have at last made a connection between Wnt signaling and human hair disease that is highly significant,” says Christiano. “And unlike commonly available treatments for hair loss that involve blocking hormonal pathways, treatments involving the Wnt pathway would be non-hormonal, which may enable many more people suffering from hair loss to receive such therapies.”

Have Your Own Perfume Made, From Your DNA

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

Recently, I saw a show…on perfume. Women were having a terrible time, finding a scent they truly loved. Herewith a new way, to create the scent unique to you! With a DNA swab from the inside of your mouth, a perfume is made — which each woman in the study liked. There are several who are now making this, try a search…and see which company you like.

If you don’t feel finding a scent is difficult for you, please follow this suggestion….one which most gg’s already know. If you select a perfume, (oil) they are often very strong. Cologne is softer and not terribly strong. Your goal is to smell yummy, but not to “radiate perfume”…which many people are bothered by. The #1 mistake most women make; is purchasing an inexpensive perfume. They are strong and put off an “overkill” scent. Save, for a higher quality…and spry in your pulse sites. In addition, these less expensive scents will turn rancid when kept over a few months.

I personally, prefer to use a scented body lotion, which I apply after drying off. For a fresh scent, you want a quality cologne and /or body lotion. All retail stores, have samples. Take them home, and apply. See what you like, at 1hr, 3 hr, and that evening. Don’t forget fresh, smelling hair also! This is one area; you can use a light bottle of inexpensive spray cologne, lightly over your hair.

To select your scent: Decide if you like a musk, pine, flowers, or fruit. I like to always wear the same scent, so it becomes your “signature scent”. Again, spend a little more to get a quality…that doesn’t “flare”.
Have fun finding your scent!

Facial and Body Tape, For Shaping

Friday, April 9th, 2010

Happy April to all of you! It is beautiful here in Santa Cruz CA…lots of people coming into the beach. Today, I am taking my two 6 pound Maltese to the beach. I love living and working near the beach;something about the sound and feel of the waves..helps me get in touch with myself. Oh yes, yesterday I had a consultation with a new girl. She is losing weight, but did need her face taped back. I showed her how to put a wig cap over her hair. Then, I taped her face and neck back–by pulling any excess skin back–and pressing Facial and Body Tape…2 inchs clear tape….onto her skin and pulled it up and over…onto the wig cap. This is fabulous tape– from the Breast Form Store. Be sure and check out their web site, www.BFS.com They ship all their products to you and have wonderful customer support. Okay, back to the consultation. This new girl was amazed at her “instant face lift” and how much more feminine she looked with makeup. So, don’t be afraid of taping any of your face and neck back….this is a very clear tape. To remove…put a small amount of any oil…and it lifts off. You can slso use this for taping your breasts…so you have cleavage. If you have any questions, do blog.
I am running off to the beach. All of you have a great weekend, and be sure and get out in nature and “Feel” by turning off your thoughts.
Hugs To All My Readers/Bloggers……

Chin Back

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

Hello from Denae. Today, in Northern CA…it is beautiful. I took my dogs to the beach to toss the ball and let them run. I found myself, later…walking with my chin down When I “caught myself” I took my “chunk it stick” (a long stick with a cup on the end which hold a tennis ball so you can throw tennis balls very long distances…its a girl thing..as I have a girl throw). Anyway, I used the stick, and placed it behind my head, where your skull curves into your neck. Instantly, my chin came back, my chin lifted upward, and most importantly…my breast lifted up. It made me realize, that everyone reverts back to their old way of moving and speaking. With all my years of run-way experience, and pageants…I was really surprised I could so easily return to the way, I walked as a 13 yr old girl…who felt she was to tall and very ugly. Most importantly, my bust lifted up. When, we lead with our chin down and forward…it sinks our chest inward. So, girls find a stick and lift your chin, and lift your breasts when walking. Men, DO walk with their chin leading. So, even in guy mode…when you catch yourself walking heavy, leaning forward, dropping your weight forward and down into your feet, or when you catch yourself “pushing” insteading of “pulling in” your arms, hands, legs, feet, and chin…make a mental note, and once again…catch yourself. In time, you will learn, how to walk in a feminine way….but as I just explained, women have to always work on their movement, voice and general appearance. Oh, such hard work being a girl, but what great fun. I love being a girl. Didn’t Cindi Lauper sing that?

Having fun!

Feel Your Movement, by Stopping The Thoughts Racing

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

Hello Elizabeth- You and I just worked, and you had a difficult time, of “staying in your femme voice and body movement”…and we worked with a relaxation technique…to keep the racing thoughts out of your head….and therefore stay IN YOUR BODY. By, allowing your thoughts to “race” you will naturally fall back into your male way of moving and speaking.
In addition, after we worked….I found this web site..which helps people do just that…keep the ego thoughts, of negative to stop! And, by staying in your body…you can FEEL your movement.
Herewith a followup web site, which may also help you stay in your body and feel your movement.
Good Luck!

Silence Your Major Critic
by anthony on July 12, 2007
We look into the mirror in the morning and think, “You look terrible!”. Throughout the day our internal self critic is continually yelling at us,

“You Idiot”
“You have no self control!”
“You’re Useless”
“Can’t you do anything right?”

Often the things we say to ourself are far worse than anything we would ever say to anyone else! An important part of achieving success in life is developing a positive self-image and a strong sense of self-esteem.

A great way to do this is to create an “I AM” board. Here’s how it works…

Find a quiet spot, sit down with a pen and paper and write down the things you see as your best qualities. This may be difficult at first because we are often not used to thinking positively about ourselves.

If you are stuck, think about the different roles you have in life eg. Mother, sister, friend etc. Also include your talents and the things you enjoy doing. Your finished “I AM” board should look something like this:

When you finish your “I AM” board, put it somewhere you will see it regularly like next to your bathroom mirror or on the back of the bathroom door.

As you read your “I AM” statement each morning, you will find that your inner self-critic will begin to lose his or her voice. Your self-image will steadily improve and you will gain more confidence to go after your dreams.

This Week’s Action Steps

(1) Find a quiet spot and at the top of a blank sheet of paper write, “I AM”

(2) Write down a list of your best attributes and character traits

(3) Put your “I AM” board somewhere you will see it regularly and read it everyday

(4) Be aware of your inner self-critic and everytime you hear his or her voice, reject the negative thought and focus on who you really are.

Until Next Time,

Dare To Dream!

Anthony
