Tall Size Clothing Suggestions, For Spring

March 7, 2008 - Tag: Uncategorized - No Feedbacks (0)

Many TG women, have broader shoulders. Here are some suggestions to remember, when you begin your Spring/Summer Shopping. Make adjustments for any padding. However, …broader shoulders… is the key area to work around. Consider these points for wide shoulders.

Broad-shouldered women with proportionally narrow hips and less defined waistlines.

Fabrics

Smooth, tightly woven, small print fabrics on top to minimize shoulders. Have fun experimenting with bold prints, plaids and wools in skirts and slacks.

Necklines

Deep scoop, V-, U- and round necklines that break up your shoulder line and are highly flattering.

A deep V-neckline breaks up a strong shoulder line.

Fitted tops with deep round necklines or shawl collars soften the line of your shoulder. I always suggest my TG women, purchase shawls to wear over your shoulders, and as a light wrap at night. Please get one solid color shawl ladies!!

Jackets & Tops

Keep detail, particularly on jackets, to a minimum; styles that soften the shoulders and slightly flare at the hem add balance.

Lightly gathered neckline adds softness to strong shoulders. The bit of curve in the hem of the jacket adds curves to your shape. No heavy lapel jackets, look for soft feminine jackets!

Mandarin jackets and tops with a simple vertical line banding relieve the strong horizontal line of your shoulders.

Skirts & Dresses

Interesting and beautiful skirts balancing your shoulders with a bit of swing are fun and flattering and look great on TG women. You don’t have to always wear a tight skirt!

Try gathered, sewn or unsewn pleated skirts.

A flared panel skirt balances the shoulders.

A trumpet hem balances out the shoulders nicely and draws the eye to those legs of yours.

Huggy skirts bring out your lower body curves so by all means wear them. You will have to wear your waist cincer to corset however.

Looser sleeves soften the shoulders and add curves to the hips.

Patch hip pockets with flaps and buttons on an A-line skirt add nice “weight” to the lower body.

Pants

Boot-cut slacks nicely balance the shoulders. Ideally they sit on or slightly above the hipbone to enhance the waistline and the flare in the pant leg starts below the knee. This really lengthens the leg.

Pocket details and pleats at the hips are always a good idea.

Pleats on cuffed and full leg trousers flatter slender hips and long legs.

Fly front, bootleg pants with side seam detailing are very flattering.

Pockets & Other Details

Pockets on jackets and slacks around the hip area widen you to balance out your shoulders.

Cuffed, fluted and bell sleeves also add nice fullness to the hips.

Gathered sleeves soften the shoulders.

It is best to try on different styles of clothing, so see what fits your taller frame and wider shoulders. I hope you’re able to try on your clothing, instead of ordering out of a catalog. However, for privacy, if you must order from a catalog…do remember these tips! Also, remember, no bright colors on top, keep them bold/darker.

I hope this helps, the Taller TG woman with her shopping.

New Spring 2008 Wardrobe Ideas

March 5, 2008 - Tag: Uncategorized - No Feedbacks (0)

Hello Ladies:

Here in the “Bay “Area” all the new Spring/Summer clothing is out in the stores. New catalogs are out also. Time to begin your research, into what 2 or 3 items you need, in what styles you can wear with your body frame, so you know what and how… to have a new/fresh spring summer casual look for very little money.

Today, I began looking at what “key” pieces I could purchase, to coordinate with all my pre-exisiting wardrobe pieces. I realized how important it was–for new TG women to learn–to purchase a few items that have the color/style for this season. I am not saying you have to purchase all new outfits, but think of what jeans you have….and only n purchase a new spring colored T-shirt, in the latest longer tunic length. It may be two pieces,(a pair of capri’s or light colored jeans) and you will have this years look pulled together, for going out and blending during the day.

Buying 1-2 new fresh separates, each season….is how you build a wardrobe with each seasons new look on a budget. Look through catalogs and research what the new look, style, color is. Study, if this will look good on your body type. After you study the catalogs, you can then put this same look together, in a less expensive store for half the price. In addition, think about what shoes are being shown for Spring/summer…and decide which style you will wear this summer. Wides and open toes are best for TG women, or an summer shoe without a heel.

The more “casual” pieces you have, the more you will be able to out and BLEND in, go anywhere, and be comfortable! You may want to buy those sexy 4-5 inch heels, but honestly…you can only wear them to a nightclub. So, think of your basics for summer. Perhaps a pair of light colored jeans in a light blue, white, etc. Open toe shoe, and a couple pair of T-shirts in the new style. Back to basics. WE all have enough sexy dresses and heels to last us!

If you want to “pass” then you must blend. Being over the top sexy during the day, will get you noticed for the wrong reason. Do your research.  Measure yourself and study the size charts. If you put any clothing, in the dryer, then buy one size larger…so it can shrink down in the dryer. But, ladies….as of April you don’t want to wear your winter shoes, skirts, and tops.  You want to leave that heavy winter coat at home, look for a new light-weight coat for cool evenings, you can find them from $50.00 to $75.00–or purchase a trench coat in a fun color, and you will also have a rain coat! I suggest for learning your color…to purchase the paper back Color Me Beautiful, by Carole Jackson. This old “Bible” of Color 101 is on Amazon for $1.00 It also has your colors put on one page, you can fold and carry…and she has as questions to help you determine YOUR colors (for guy mode also). Well worth the purchase.

If you wear YOUR colors and always purchase within your color family, things will start going together. So, for April… get your Straw Handbag out or your white handbag, summer shoes to be cleaned up at the shoe store, and purchase your key items. Looking beautiful, requires shopping at each season, with a plan. And, you can spend under $100.00 and have several cute jean/t-shirt and shoes for summer. So, do your research with catalogs and then go and re-create.  Shop, with a plan of knowing exactly what you need, this is so important to learn.

If you are Tall, look for stores such as JC Penny’s for Tall jeans. Mervyn’s also has inexpensive Tall jeans for under $25.00 in all light colors! Your lipstick and cheeks, should go from the darker winter color to a new light.. spring coral, gold or pink!Less makeup for spring summer. Light colored white tip nails, or a light pink nail and a light colors for your toenails too!

Hello From Denae.

Another tip for dressing. I just found this site, as they have shoes up to size 15. Take a look. Many times, the TG woman should order a Wide, to help your shoe not “pinch” at the toe. Or, purchase an open toe.
